Bravo, well said Paul. Anyone who could actively demonstrate that they genuinely meant that, in a social and ecological sense, would get my vote.

Sadly, unlikely to happen.

A lifetime on and all I’ve been asking today is if you’re transgender what’s changed? Apart from politically correct language and pastel coloured paint on the walls very little. The city council just blows smoke up our asses.

The European Parliament passed a (non-binding) resolution that included transgender people not being forced to justify access to the healthcare we need. The European Court of Human Rights is very strong on transgender positive judgements. A parliamentary select committee agreed that transgender people should get everything on our healthcare wishlist. The Human Rights Act, Equality Act, and Sex Discrimination Act are on our side. Transgender people are estimated to be the single most self-educated group of people about their healthcare needs and the largest per-capita users of private healthcare. Motivation, community, and education are not our problems, yet, our healthcare options remain choked to the point of uselessness.

Bristol City Council has a role to play in advocacy, creating the local healthcare system we need, and a role in directly influencing healthcare funding yet do nothing.
